Asthma is a prevalent condition among children in China, and Project HOPE’s pediatric asthma program has been pivotal in providing education, treatment, and support to affected families through the social media platform. The AI auscultation technology will be applied in clinical settings in Shanghai as a pilot and then be promoted to some rural areas in China. According to the study by SCMC, the AI technology has a higher accuracy rate in differentiating different breath sounds than young pediatricians and general doctors. It can help increase the diagnosis rate of some common childhood respiratory diseases such as pneumonia, asthma, bronchitis, and bronchiolitis and help HCPs understand the progression of diseases by comparing the changes in breath sounds. What’s more, the AI technology makes it possible to provide telemedicine services to children who live in rural areas with less medical resources.
